Scope and Contents

The Alfred Schnittke Manuscripts (1 linear feet) consists of one autograph of “Sinfonishches Vorspiel” notated in pencil on “32-stave “Star Nr. 37” music manuscript paper (10x14 sq in), composed in 1994. As a working short-score manuscript, it contains numerous corrections, emendations, directions, indications pertaining to scoring, and furnished with lists of numbers (in cm) indicating the space to be allowed for the width of each bar in the successive fair-copy autograph. Schnittke (1934-1998) was a Russian composer of Jewish-German descent.

This collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Special Collections in the Jean and Alexander Heard Library.
