The Jack Hurst Collection contains hundreds of taped interviews of celebrities, country music artists, and music industry leaders. Jack Hurst was a reporter and author who used these recordings for articles on country music in The Tennessean and other publications.

This collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Special Collections in the Jean and Alexander Heard Library. Biographical / Historical
Jack Hurst was born in 1941 and graduated from Vanderbilt in 1964. Hurst began writing about country music in the late 1960s. He was the first full-time music writer for The Tennessean, the first Nashville contributing editor for Country Music Magazine and originated the country music beats at the Philadelphia Inquirer and the Chicago Tribune. He has authored numerous books on country music.
