Scenes from the Life of Joachim: Joachim among the Shepherds, Painting is one of a series of images that depict scenes from the life of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne painted by Giotto. This scene depicts the hagiographical story in which Saint Joachim came upon a group of shepherds and asked to join them during his hermetic stay in the wilderness. Here, the two shepherds appear young, accompanied by a dog, and surrounded by sheep. Joachim, by intentional contrast, is much older and alone.
