Christina of Denmark, Duchess of Milan, in mourning, This is a portrait of Christina of Denmark and was painted for King Henry VIII while he was considering her as a potential wife. Holbein traveled to Brussels to complete the work and Henry VIII was quite taken with her likeness, but he never secured her as a wife. According to Rowlands's account, Christina was much too strong-willed to be the king's next conquest.
