The Annunciation to the Virgin, This is painting depicts the angel Gabriel appearing to the Virgin Mary to inform her that she will bear the son of God. She is shown kneeling at her prie-dieu, with her hand holding her place in the book of hours. Presumably, the angel has interrupted Mary at a moment of devout piety. The angel holds a banner that reads a line from the Angelicus prayer, confirming Mary's holiness.
