The Judgment of Paris, This piece depicts the myth of the Judgment of Paris. Paris, prince of Troy, is shown reclining against a tree. Hermes is presenting the three goddesses to Paris so that he may settle the divine debate of which goddess is truly the most beautiful. The three promise him different gifts in exchange for his favor. Aphrodite promises him the most beautiful woman in the world, which he accepts. This promised woman was Helen of Sparta and this promise caused the Trojan War.
