The Penitent Jerome in his Study, This painting depicts St. Jerome in his study. He holds a rock in his hand as is customary of the saint. On his desk sits a skull (another common attribute of the saint), a letter and a candlestick. An open book sits behind the saint to his right. In the background is an open window revealing a city. Unlike most depictions of Saint Jerome, here we see the saint with a short beard.
