Donne Triptych, This painting represents that adoration of the Virgin Mary and Christ child. The two sit enthroned in the central panel. On either side of the pair are angels with musical instruments, Saints Catherine and Barbara (from left to right), and the patrons, Sir John Donne (on the left) and his wife and daughter (on the right). The family kneels in prayer before the holy mother and child. The angel to the left of Christ holds a fruit and the Christ child reaches for it. The exterior panels depict representations of both saints John the Baptist and John the Evangelist. John the Baptist is depicted on the left pointing to a lamb that he holds with his left arm. On the right is St. John the Evangelist who holds a chalice with a viper. The patrons' coats of arms are visible on the columns that separate the foreground from a distant landscape.
