This scene depicts the funeral and ascension of Saint Francis. Here, Saint Francis' body is placed upon a platform in which Franciscans surround him in various states of ritual observance and mourning. One man, near the head of Saint Francis is glancing upward, recognizing Saint Francis soul has ascended. Above the scene Saint Francis appears in a circle of angels in the sky.
