Three Scenes from the Life of Mary, This image shows three scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary: in the left panel, presentation of the Virgin in the temple; in the central panel, the coronation of the Virg; in the right panel, the birth of the Virgin. These scenes are part of a a series of six scenes, the other three shown in SC.MSS.088.VENI.0139.

In the first panel, Mary is presented by her mother Anna to the Priest in the temple, who holds out his hands to receive her. Joachim stands behind Anna, and other witnesses stand behind him. Behind the Priest and additional witnesses is the apse with a gothic style altarpiece. In the central scene is the coronation of the Virgin. Here, on a large throne in a flowering meadow, sits God the Father, Mary, and Christ in a triangular composition. Christ crowns Mary queen of Heaven, and God the Father places his hands on each of their shoulders. As Christ reaches out to crown Mary, the dove of the Holy Spirit hovers above his hand. He holds a scepter. Mary bows her head in piety. God the Father wears a mantle adorned with stars. Surrounding the ornate throne are eleven angels, three kneeling at the base of the throne and eight hovering around the upper sides of the scene. In the right panel is the birth of the Virgin. Here, Anna, who sits up in bed, is presented with the baby Mary. Joachim stands at the foot of the bed, and talks with two women. The scene is set in a domestic interior space.
