Above the scene, nude infant putti are gathered in a group in the starlit sky. Behind the scene on the viewer's left is the A-frame stable with cattle inside. In the distance, the narrative begins on the far right with an angel telling the news to the shepherds, and continues after with the flight into Egypt in the central background.
