Sudarium of St. Veronica Supported by Two Angels, This print refers to one of the episodes along the road to Calvary. According to apocryphal legend, Veronica was troubled by the sight of Christ struggling to carry his cross, so she gave him a cloth with which to wipe his face. Upon returning it to her, his face was imprinted into it. This is regarded as a miracle by the Catholic Church and, in conjunction with her piety and compassion, elevated Veronica to sainthood., 1513
