Cupid Chastised, Popular opinion states that this painting depicts one of two different interpretations, the first being that Vulcan is the clothed man with ropes abusing the young winged man Cupid, who is also blindfolded, for the love of Venus and Mars. Venus being the partially undressed woman crouching next to the scene, attempting to stop the man. The second theory is that the man abusing Cupid is Mars, punishing the young man for an incestuous relationship with his mother, Venus. On the ground there appears broken arrows and a helmet while in the background two doves are flying off., 1613
