The Blessed Lorenzo Giustiniani, This image shows a painting of the Blessed Lorenzo Giustiniani. The painting has aspects of both an image of a saint and a portrait. The full-length view is more typical of saint images, whereas the profile format was the Venetian form of the time to show portraiture (as in coinage). Two friars kneel, one on either side of the saint. Lorenzo's face is carefully rendered, suggesting the subject sat for the artist a few years earlier (as this portrait was executed about 10 years after the saint's death). This facial rendering is in contrast to the very rigid modelling of the rest of the figure and composition. The saint gives the sign of blessing with his right hand.
