A man wearing all black with a hat is shown adding oil to a lamp while covering his mouth to make sure his breath does not extinguish the flame. Behind him, shadows of large donkeys dance along the walls. In the bottom right corner of the paintings the inscription 'lampara descomunal' meaning "monstrous lamp" appears leading many scholars to believe that this painting was to be stage representation. This painting is also one of six different paintings Goya painted for the Duke of Osuna, all six share a theme of witchcraft., 1798
