Research Materials on Mark Twain
Scope and Contents
This collection has been arranged into three series:
Series I contains personal correspondence to Marc Hollender and his wife, Betty Hollender, during World War II. Most of the letters are handwritten, some on regular stationary and others on V-Mail stationary. The letters are arranged by person and by the year received. Correspondents are Samuel Fraerman, Stanley Frankel, Sam Schwartz, George Sharpe, Jerome Solomon, Leonard Solomon, and Gerald Tannebaum.
Series II contains newspaper and/or journal articles written by Stanley Frankel, one student newspaper from St. John's Military Academy, 13 postcards related to Mark Twain, one Presidential Dinner program, one yearbook from St. John's Military Academy, Research materials regarding Charles King, and six miscellaneous pieces of World War II memorabilia.
Series III contains 35 photographs, with some quite graphic scenes from the concentration camps in Germany.
Dr. Hollender's collection of Mark Twain books, and other books have been catalogued and are searchable through the Library's online system.

Conditions Governing Access
The physical materials from this collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Vanderbilt’s Special Collections and University Archives. Materials should be requested two to three days in advance to facilitate easier access. Contact specialcollections@vanderbilt.edu to schedule an appointment.
