Originally published in the Source. This image contains 50 Cent (from NYC), Juvenile (from New Orleans), Fabolous (from New York), and Lil’ Romeo (from New Orleans). It comments on the formation of police units that specifically targeted hip hop stars and resulted in the arrest of prominent figures. At the time of publication, bounce, a sub-style of hip hop associated with New Orleans was coming to prominence. Each of the performers depicted had chart-topping albums out. 50Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ reached number one on both the hip hop album and pop chart; it went multi-platinum and had extensive world-wide sales. Juvenile’s Juve the Great peaked at number 4 and went platinum. Fabolous’ Street Dreams peaked at number three on both the hip hop album and hot 100 charts and went platinum. Lil’ Romeo was thirteen years old at the time his second album Game Time was released and had two songs that made it into the top 100. He went on to play college basketball and have an acting career.
