Biographical / Historical
(b. 1927) soprano. Price sang with her college glee club. Then in 1949, Price won a scholarship to Juilliard. She performed in Four Saints in Three Acts (1952) and Porgy and Bess (1953) on Broadway. She was beginning a concert career when a highly successful television appearance of Tosca (1955) sealed her fate as an opera singer. Price has a type of voice (lirico-spinto) that was capable of the most virtuosic passages. She was active as a performer until 1997. (Source: Blyth 2009, Oxford Music Online)
