Biographical / Historical
(1927-2023) popular singer and actor. Belafonte made his début as a singer in 1949, at the Royal Roost in New York. He traveled and incorporated folk music into his repertoire and recordings. Between 1957 and 1959 his interpretations of Trinidadian Calypso marked the pinnacle of his career. Later, he took his success and continued his career as an actor. His popularity waned in the 1970s, but he toured the world and retained a faithful fan base.
