Scope and Contents
Essays, articles, poems, short stories, and literary criticism written by scholars and academics other than Manuel Zapata Olivella. Topics also include race, slavery, human rights, literary criticism, music, percussion music, and the Caribbean. Included is a book from 1879 about Julio Verne’s works containing elaborate illustrations of Colombia, a poem signed by Pedro Blas, articles written by Juan Zapata Olivella, and a short story by Mateo Zapata.
Also included is a bound copy of George List’s book titled Musica y Poesía en un Pueblo Colombiano: Una Herencia Tri-Cultural published by Indiana University Press in Bloomington, IN in 1994. In a letter dated January 24, 1995, George List invited Manuel Zapata Olivella to write an introduction to the Spanish translation of List’s book.

The physical materials from this collection may be viewed only in the reading room of Vanderbilt’s Special Collections and University Archives.
