This painting attributed to Bosch in 1932 when it was sold at the Gallerie Matthiesen to the National Gallery of Denmark as indicated by a label on the reverse of the work. It was Max J. Friedlander who argued that the work should be reattributed to Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
