Philandrier, Painting depicts the Cardinal Georges d'Armagnac, ambassador of France to Venice in 1536, to Rome in 1539 and his secretary G. Philandrier sitting at a desk, the cardinal holds an open letter in his hand while gazing beyond the viewer and his secretary hods a pen above paper waiting for instruction, likely a diplomatic correspondence. The cardinal is identified by his clerical regalia though the secretary appears to be in contemporary finery, wearing a chain necklace and rich colors.
