Assumption of the Virgin Mary, Image depicts the Assumption of the Virgin Mary or Dormition of the Theotokos, in which after the death of Christ, the Virgin Mary continued to live out her earthly life to completion, on her death bed, God transported all of disciples to her death bed and at which time she was taken to heaven. Here, we see the twelve disciples gather around the tomb of Mary, and look up as her spirit rises to heaven (not pictured)., 1600-1620
Vanderbilt photo identifier: SC.MSS.088.SCUL.0004; Public Notes: Sold from the Oriola Collection in Amsterdam in 1932 under the direction of Mensing & Fils (lot 49). Purchased by H.P. Doodeheefver and passed on to descendants.; Previously attributed to Girolamo Campagna.; Commissioned from the Lugano sculptor Giovanni Maria Nosseni in 1606, and Christoph's younger brother Sebastian likely collaborated on the sculpture.
