The Holy Family, The Holy Family is shown together with a nondescript landscape behind them. Mary the Mother of Christ is the central figure, holding and looking on the baby Jesus. To her left is Saint Joseph, Jesus's earthly father. Under Mary's left hand is the child, John the Baptist, he is holding a small banner. Christ, though a child, is holding a crucifix with an "INRI" sign atop. Helping support the crucifix is an angel, and another angel beside holds a spear. These are the instruments that will be used to kill the adult Jesus, but the Christ child holds them here to allude to the coming sacrifice. Overall, the scene is not from a Biblical passage, but features these many important figures from Christ's earthly family.
