Here, the panel is divided into an upper and lower row that highlights the drama and significance of the Crucifixion. Jesus and the two thieves have already been tortured. The sky is filled with angels. The crowd is divided at the feet of the cross, the followers of Jesus and the three Marys are shown in grief and mourning while the soldiers and crowd on the left jeer and look on the scene in anger., 1308-1311

The Funeral Procession and The Incredulity of Thomas, Scene is one of 26 images that detail the life of Christ that decorate the back of the Maesta altarpiece. Detail of two predella scenes from the life of Christ. The first depicts the funeral procession of the Virgin Mary, led by Saint John holding the palm, with seven other haloed saints while all 12 were said to be an attendance except Saint Thomas. The group carries the body of the "sleeping" Virgin Mary. The second predella depicts the Doubting Thomas story in which Saint Thomas doubt he is in the presence of the resurrected Christ and needs to physically touch the wounds.
