The Money Changer and His Wife, Portrait of the moneychanger and his wife depicted counting money with greedy facial expressions. The man wears a traditional Dutch cap and a red suit. On the table sit several gold and copper coins, an account book, and a scale. In the background is a candlestick and a variety of disheveled papers. The disorderly room is symbolic of the characters' morally reprehensible activity., c. 1538
