Equestrian Portrait of Philip IV of Spain, Equestrian portrait of Phillip IV of Spain, in full armor carrying a staff to illustrate his role as king and administrator, although he wears a contemporary hat, he is accompanied by a squire holding his armored helmet. Surrounding him are mythological characters, one of which carries a laurel crown while sketching on a globe that is hoisted by two angels or cupids, the other controls lightening. The supernatural scene takes place before an ordinary landscape., circa 1645
