Saints Peter and Paul, These two saints have long been associated with each other since the beginning of Christian paintings and sculpture. Peter, on the left, is traditionally shown as the older of the two; in this painting, he is shown reading out of a book. Paul, on the right, is traditionally rendered younger; here, he holds a sword and a closed book. Often, Peter is depicted as a soldier and Paul as a philosopher, but here those types are less defined. Behind them is a landscape, and in small form under the horizon line, there are allusive illustrations to when Christ called each of them, respectively. Peter's, on the far left, is Jesus calling him when he was a fisherman. Paul is shown thrown off of his horse when he saw the vision of Christ. This is a basic record created to enable public access to scanned images. Full research on this image is pending., c.1450-1500, Photographed in 1929

Triumph of Death, Left Half, This is the left half of the scene which "is located in the interior of an elegant enclosed garden where death riding a skeleton–like horse comes ready to cast deadly arrows on pleasure-loving nobles and elegant ladies that, being unaware, meet around the spring of youth. At the edges the poor and the outcasts are present, while popes, emperors, kings, monks and men of law lie on the ground already beaten by arrows." (From the Galleria Regionale della Sicilia online archive.) The spring of youth is presumably on the right half of the painting, in record SC.MSS.088.SPAN.0038. Also there appears to be a person in a cloak, presumably working alongside death and located behind him, who is holding back two malicious dogs on a leash., 1440-1450
Vanderbilt photo identifier: SC.MSS.088.SPAN.0038; Public Notes: This fresco was originally on the wall in the Palazzo Scalfani in Palermo, but it was removed in 1944 and transferred to its current gallery.
