Venere Italica, The picture shows Venus of ancient Greek mythology, she covers her body with a sheet. This piece was commissioned by King of Etruria Ludovico I to replace the Medici Venus that was stolen by Napoleon. Instead of producing a mere copy, Cordova crafted a beautiful statue using the same marble as Michelangelo's Pieta to increase the dramatic drapery being held by the woman. She stands in 50% profile, nude, with an elaborate hairdo., 1804-1811
