The Triumph of Chastity, The frontal image of a cassone displaying the Triumph of Chastity., Before 1875
Vanderbilt photo identifier: SC.MSS.088.HITA.0164; Public Notes: This piece was owned by Thomas Gambier Parry from November 1875 until 1966. When he bought the cassone, he was told that it was 15 century North Italian. However, scholars today feel that the technique has a 19th century appearance and are unclear whether the piece is Tuscan or North Italian. The work has been done in a style reflecting 15th century cassone painting and may be a reworking of an earlier design.
