Lucas de Wael and Cornelis de Wael, Portrait of Lucas de Wael and Cornelis de Wael. The two brothers took after their father, painter Jan de Wael, both pursuing careers as artists themselves. Lucas trained under Jan "Velvet" Bruegel the Elder while Cornelis trained under Jan Snellinek. They moved from Antwerp to Genoa in 1615 where they became very closely acquainted with Van Dyck., 1627
