Scope and Contents Vanderbilt photo identifier: SC.MSS.088.FLEM.0645; Public Notes: Similar paintings by Van Dyck exist and were made in Palermo in 1624 during the summer of the Plague. It was that summer that they found the bones of St. Rosalie, one of the city's five Virgin patrons in a cave on Mt. Pelegrino. This was understood as a sign of divine favor and St. Rosalie was named Palermo's protector from the Plague.
